Low Blood Oxygen Side Effects?
Saturday, November 7th, 2009Hi all, my father-in-law has had 2 heart attacks in the past 3 years requiring stints. 52 years old, 6 feet tall, 250 lbs. No exercise or diet programs followed, still smokes a pack a day. He recently passed out 2-3 times (twice while getting out of bed in the middle of the night, once on toilet), went to the hospital. They gave him breathing treatments, told him he has emphysema and kept him for 4 days for low blood oxygen (low 80’s). He came back home for 7 days, started getting around better, then started having trouble btreathing again & went to the hospital. When he got there, they drew blood and said his blood oxygen level was 52%. He is showing signs of: memory loss, confusion, deep sleep, and now hallucinations. Doctors have run EKG, CAT Scan – not sure why his blood oxygen is low, but found a weak muscle in his heart. Now they are in the process of transferring him to a larger hospital to see a heart specialist.
Any ideas on what could be happening
