My father is 76 years old. He is suffering from less intake of oxygen when he breaths?
Jayan asked:
As per our family doctor his lungs wall became weak and he has given some medicines for the stable condition. But he is suffering too much. Daily we have to give him 2-3 times artifical oxygen from the cylinder for 15-20 minutes. His health also getting very weak. My question is how to improve his health in this situation. Is location change will help? Now he is staying in a busy town.

It sounds like he has emphysema. He should see a pulmonary specialist.

If you are in Denver where the air is thinner then yes, move! He would also be better off away from a large city and all the smog, or a hot and humid place either!

why doesn’t he wear the oxygen all the time? The continous oxygen takes the strain off the lungs and stops his heart from working so hard. Keep it at around a 2 and I bet eventually he feels better. Also a dry climate is better for any kind of lung disease, damp cold weather makes it worse. I hope he doesn’t smoke.

Make him wear the oxygen all the time. Put it on a low flow, like 2-3 liters, but make sure that he isn’t the kind of person that gets a CO2 build up, like emphysema patients do.

Why is he only getting O2 2-3 x a day for 15-20 mins? That’s not normal use. He should use it continously probably. Call his doctor ASAP, this is why he can’t breathe! His oxygen levels are only stay up WHILE he’s getting the oxygen. It doesn’t work like a medication, the minute you take the O2 away, he’ll become hypoxic within seconds. Please call his doctor asap. Hypoxia is dangerous and makes him feel very short of breath!
